Melbourne has to be one of the best cities in Australia that I have had the pleasure of visiting. A vibrant city life, botanical gardens, quirky eateries, lanes and ally ways filled with amazing artwork and the gateway to the great ocean road are just a few of the special things this city has to offer.
It’s easy to take a step back and relax amongst the laid back hipster lifestyle in this city which has become a popular destination for backpackers, adventurers and people seeking work abroad.
Take the free city circle train
Far more than just a means of transportation, Melbourne offers a free hop on / hop off between the city’s sightseeing attractions including Parliament House, The Princess Theatre, Federation Square and The Old Treasury Building which includes a running commentary.
Relax in the many cafés
Melbourne’s Cafe is part of this cities heart and soul! There are actually café tours available that will take you around some of the best this vibrant city has to offer. You can find them at Melbourne Coffee Tours
Walk the lanes of street art
There is a Walking tour available which is run by graffiti artists. The tour runs at around $65 AUD and helps support local artists. You can find them at Melbourne Street Art Tours
There is a much cheaper option for those on a budget, walking the many secluded lanes and allies on a self guided tour from the aptly named Tight Arse Tours
The Royal Botanic Gardens
The Botanic Gardens of Melbourne, like many around Australia offer a place to get away from the hustle of the city to relax in a peaceful leafy environment. During the summer months the Melbourne Gardens offer nightly movies, mostly major Hollywood features.
Check out the St Kilda area
St Kilda is Melbourne’s famous night life area, a great place to meet and hang out with other travelers and locals. Filled with inexpensive restaurants and bars.
